Bridesmaid Duties: 8 Jobs to Give Your Bridesmaids on Your Wedding Day
October 21, 2026 · 4 min read

You picked your bridesmaids because you trust them. The next question is what they will actually do on your wedding day. As a San Antonio wedding photographer and videographer, I have seen how much smoother a day runs when everyone has a clear job, and how much calmer the bride feels.
Here are eight bridesmaid duties worth handing out ahead of time. Each one solves a real problem that comes up on wedding days, and a few of them make a big difference in your photos.
1. Keep the bride photo ready
This job goes to the person who knows you best. They stay by your side and fix anything that looks off, especially during photos. Ask them to carry floss, stain remover, and powder so you stay fresh all day.
2. Be the dress fluffer
It is easy to underestimate this one. When your dress looks amazing, your photos look amazing. You spent a lot on that dress, so let your bridesmaid straighten the train and fluff the skirt before each photo. It helps your photographer too.
3. Keep the bride fed and hydrated
Wedding days are long, and it is surprisingly easy to forget to eat or drink. Ask one bridesmaid to make sure you do both. Give her permission to interrupt anyone who has been talking to you for too long so you can take a water break.
4. Decorate the getaway car
If your send-off is in your own car, put a bridesmaid in charge of it so the groomsmen do not go overboard. Ask her to keep the front windows clear so you can see everyone and wave goodbye. A Venmo handle on the back and a little sweet treat inside are fun extras.
5. Handle vendor coordination
This job keeps the day running on time and keeps you out of the weeds. Give one bridesmaid the full schedule, including when each vendor needs to arrive and be ready. She checks in with everyone, confirms they have what they need, and makes sure they are there for each event.
6. Capture behind-the-scenes footage on your phone
Hand your phone to a bridesmaid and ask her to film behind-the-scenes moments all day. Tell her to carry a portable charger and to give your phone back between events. One rule: no phone videos during the ceremony. Your photographer and videographer have that covered, and you do not want a phone in the middle of your photos. Talk through the moments you want ahead of time so she knows what to prioritize.
7. Get people dancing
You know how some guests stand around and talk when the dancing starts because it feels awkward? Ask a bridesmaid to be the life of the party. She invites people onto the dance floor, includes guests in the dances, and lets everyone know the dance floor is not scary.
8. Manage family relations
This job is not glamorous, but it matters a lot to how the day feels. Tell your bridesmaid which people are best kept apart so there is no drama and everyone can enjoy themselves. It is one less thing for you to worry about.

Most of these jobs protect your photos without anyone noticing. A fluffed dress, a quick powder touch-up, and a bridesmaid who knows the schedule mean more time for portraits and less time fixing things. On our planning calls, we build your photo timeline and family photo list together, so your bridesmaids know exactly when and where to be. If you are still choosing a photographer, read the questions to ask your wedding photographer before you book.
